Since all the quakes in Christchurch there has been a lot of talk about foundations, today I happened to walk past where 2 houses were getting built, one well on the way and one the concrete looked like it was ready to pour. Check out the photos, you will be amazed at how much steel is in the floor. You will also be amazed at how much ply bracing they use here! Their houses are built strong!! Did anyone in the DBH in NZ consult with the Japanese, could be a lot to learn about quake proof housing.
